Talk to a veterinarian on WhatsApp
Tell us what you are seeing and we will help you judge how urgent it is, before you decide on treatment.
What a chat can and cannot do
- We can tell you how urgent the symptoms you describe appear to be.
- We can guide you through what to watch for over the next few hours.
- We can help you decide what the sensible next step is.
- We cannot confirm a diagnosis from photographs alone.
- We cannot prescribe prescription medicine or set a dose without a physical examination.
Signs that should not wait
Please contact us the same day, and be ready to travel to a clinic, if you see any of these:
- Repeated seizures, or loss of consciousness
- Laboured breathing, or gums that look pale or bluish
- Bleeding that will not stop, a road accident, or a fall from height
- A male cat straining to urinate without passing anything
- Swallowed poison, human medicine, or a foreign object
- A puppy or kitten that is limp and cold to the touch
How to ask so the answer is useful
Please include this in your first message, so we do not have to ask for it piece by piece:
- The species, age, and approximate weight of your pet
- What you are seeing, and when it began to change
- Eating, drinking, and the last time they passed stool and urine
- Any medicine that has already been given
- A short video if the concern is breathing, seizures, or the way they walk
- A photograph of the gums, the wound, or the stool, taken in good light
What happens after your message arrives
- We read your message and ask about anything that is still unclear.
- We assess the situation: safe to monitor, needs seeing today, or needs emergency referral.
- If a home visit is needed, we confirm the timing and the cost before the veterinarian sets out.
- If a visit is not needed, we will tell you so plainly rather than book one anyway.
Frequently asked questions
Can a WhatsApp consultation tell me what the illness is?
No, and we would rather say so clearly. We assess how urgent the situation is and what to do next. A diagnosis needs a physical examination by a veterinarian at Kalyanvet.
What should I prepare before messaging a veterinarian?
Please have the species, age, and weight ready, along with what you are seeing, appetite, any medicine already given, and a photograph or short video of the problem.
Can I ask for a prescription over WhatsApp?
No. Dosing depends on an accurate body weight and on examination findings, and medicine given without those can do real harm.
My pet is not a cat or a dog. May I still ask?
Yes, please do. Tell us the species in your first message. We treat cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, sugar gliders, birds, and tortoises, and if something falls outside what we can do, we will say so directly.
How much does a home visit cost?
The cost depends on the distance and on what is needed, across Greater Jakarta. We confirm the figure with you before the veterinarian sets out, never after arrival.
An emergency? Put EMERGENCY at the start of your message
Difficulty breathing, seizures, collapse, poisoning, or bleeding that will not stop needs attention straight away. We are open 24 hours. If it needs oxygen, a transfusion, or hospital care, we help arrange a referral.
Asking first has never harmed anyone's pet
Describe what you are seeing, however briefly, and we will guide you through what comes next.
